If you look closely, you can see the A-frame heritage of this motel building.
Here's a roadside sign for The Lanai Motel.
Check out the A-frame on this motel. Now part of the Best Western Chain, the Aku Aku appears to still be in good shape. Update 11/07 : There was renovation work done at this hotel and it may now be a regular square building. Many thanks to Faith Farberman for update. 11-07
Woodland Hills Inn (formerly Aku Aku Motel) Apparently Faith's concern that the construction on site in 2007 would make the place a box was well justified. Many thanks to Faith Farberman for update and photos. 08-10
Here's the pool area of the Aku Aku.
The Safari Inn is not necessarily tiki but it sports a fantastic marquee nonetheless.
This motel is not quite tiki. However, the subdued A-frame of the Akua Motor Inn displays quasi characteristics.
Check out this marquee for the Kon Tiki Motel, complete with palm tree atop a unique sign motif.
Though not necessarily a motel, the Polynesian Mobile Home Park features a tiki depiction on its otherwise nondescript sign. Update 05/06 : The tiki sign on your site for the Polynesian Mobile Home Park in Newhall, CA is now officially gone. It was there a week or two ago but I drove by today (05-06-06) and adios amigo. The whole area appears to be under renovation, many trees are gone too and everything has that barren bulldozed look. Many thanks to Steve Banes for update. 05-06
