This rather eye-catching somewhat rustic somewhat western looking sign is the marquee for the White Tail Resort in Brevort, MI. 12-08
This old motel sign stands outside of the Beachcomber motel. Though the sign is somewhat faded, in fact the neon may have disappeared off the letters and the large boomerang arrow, the mote is still in business offering free breakfast and wireless internet. Interesting how the old roadside motels continue to change with the times in order to keep up with the big chains. 12-08
The Hiawatha Motel shows off its sign that's not necessarily of the standard old roadside motel variety but is eye-catching nonetheless. 12-08
The Balsams Motel in the town of Gros Cap, MI shows off its rather distinctive roadside marquee. The colors and little stars on the sign just add to the character. Gros Cap is a town located right near Lake Michigan. 12-08
Here is the marquee for the River-Aire Motel standing tall in Sault Ste Marie, MI. At first it appeared that there was just a sign remaining, but back behind the house there was building with what looked to be 3 or 4 motel units. It wasn't clear if the motel was open or not. The sign has some of the tubing missing. 12-08
The Kings Inn Motel features a distinct roadside sign found off the highway in Sault Ste Marie, MI. This sign was photographed in June 2008 and there was no motel around anywhere, just a weedy lot remained. Upon returning in August, the motel sign was gone and construction was ongoing at the site, but no signs as to what was going in. Another sign has disappeared off the roadside landscape. 12-08
The Dunrovin Motel prides itself on being "the quiet" motel. There was just this sign and no building in sight anywhere. 12-08
Here's another distinct roadside motel sign found in the Michigan town of Sault Ste Marie. I was by this place twice in June and once in August and never anyone or any cars around, but the grounds at the place always was mowed. Not sure if the Sunset Motel is closed these days or if its still in business. 12-08
From the looks of things, the Bambi Motel always appeared to be a a neat mom and pop place. In June of 2008, I found it empty, weedy and there had been a fire near the office. The Bambi Motel, like many other motel treasures, appears to be leaving the old highway. 12-08
The Grand Motel is hanging on while several other E. Portage Ave motels have gone under, are for sale or now just sitting empty. The Grand is found in Sault Ste Marie, MI. 12-08
