Here are some "ghost signs" that are located near Tiger Stadium. They are not really ghost signs in the true sense as they probably do not date back very far but ghost signs in the term that they are semi-old and faded.
The signs are on the back of several bars overlooking
Ralston The one for the Detroit Athletic Club is kind of strange in that the DAC was and still is an exclusive club for the wealthy, Besides the "Accept no Imitations" seems to be a more modern term. The ironic thing is that the DAC now overlooks the new ball park. The DAC was designed by Albert Kahn in about 1921. 07-08
This ghost sign located on this wall in Toledo, OH is for Tates Tires. Not sure if this is the original name or if it stands for something else like States Tires. 08-08
The Roy Bennett Furniture still features its old building and sign as it withstands the test of time in Quincy, IN. 09-08
In Owosso, they had recently torn down a building revealing part of an old Quaker Oats sign. It appears that when the recently town down building was built, they must have plastered over the remaining exposed brick wall of the building next door and of course the Quaker Oats sign. If you look close it seems as though Quaker Oats was painted over an earlier sign. 10-08
Here's the old ghost sign for Henry George Cigars. The building in Farmland, IN appeared to be empty. 05-09
Red Gold is an Indiana company headquartered not too far from me. Great tomato products and an old sign once in awhile. 05-09
Check out these ghost sign on the wall of the Wayne, IN building. The Otto Peters Drug Store is no longer in business. 05-09
Downtown Anderson, IN is being nicely kept up, even with the loss of many jobs. Anderson is also home to Lee's Drug Store and this great ghost sign. This ghost sign on the wall of this look to be early turn of the century building features advertising for "The justly famed General Arthur cigar", "Lee's Family Tourist" and "medicine Case". A look at this wall is a distinct throwback to the days when the old main streets of towns were the central hub for businesses. 05-09
