Grand Motel
Dentsville, SC

In Dentsville was the Grand Motel sign. Talking to the owner, this place had for some time been a rent by the hour motel. He was slowly restoring the motel back to a normal family place and intends to have the sign brought back to it's 1950's look. According to an old postcard picture, the star is not original. He turned on the neon so I could see how it looked. He wants to replace the flashing bulbs in the star with LED's and said the old blinking bulbs need to be replaced far too often. 02-08

The El Camino Motel was also found in Cherokee, NC. The old motel marquee looks like it still had its neon tubing intact and the pool is advertised prominently on the sign. 03-08

UPDATE 05/08 : Mac's Indian Village is open for business.  My husband and I have been running it for over a year now. It had been closed for a while.  Eight months ago we took the Qualla Motel across the street. We are remodeling some of the tee pees and people come from all over to stay here and have been for many years. They've been there around the early 1900's. Many thanks to Phyllis, owner of Mac's Indian Village, for update. 05-08

Princess Motel

The Princess Motel was missing its office, leaving the motel rooms that appear to have been built around trees and an overgrown swimming pool. 03-08
