Next time you think of a marquee, think of a big ol' chicken. This neon chicken at the Marquee Restaurant is located right off the roadside in Mesa, AZ. Not sure what the food is like here.

Cobbs Restaurant
Apache Junction, AZ

Here's a sign that brings back memories from Apache Junction Arizona. The Cobbs Restaurant has been in business for at least 40 years now. The canopy area you see in the overall shot used to be parking lot. You can also see the famous Superstition Mountain in the back ground. Apache Junction used to be like the town Mayberry from the Andy Griffith Show, complete with only two cops and a gymkhana right off the main drag (Apache Trail).

Nickerson Farms (Closed)
Picacho, AZ

Nickerson Farms Restaurants were a common sight along the interstate in the Midwest at one time. I worked at the one in Emma, Missouri and then in Blackwell, Oklahoma back in the early 1970's.

On I-10 south of Phoenix at Exit 219, Picacho Peak there is an old sign and building that are pretty well preserved considering how old they are. The sign is in decent shape. Apparently, the old Skelly(?) gasoline signage was cut off the top of the sign. It is the only one sign and building that are left and identifiable as a Nickerson Farms Restaurant as far as I know.

Cheese 'N Stuff
Phoenix, AZ

The Cheese 'N Stuff place is still in business and they seem to love their old sign. I spoke to the owner Stan (on 06-01-05). Stan and his father bought this place in 1972 from almost the original owners. I say that because the original owner sold the business in 1950 when it was just one year old, and the 2nd owners owned it until 1972. 06-05

Amado, AZ

Travel through Arizona and the town of Amado and you'll be greeted by an interesting sight. Yes, this is a huge longhorn skull and horns forming an entranceway to the Longhorn Bar and Grill serving up southwestern food since 1920. 04-06
