The Bakersfield Inn was located along the old Highway 99 in the Central Valley town of Bakersfield. Built in 1929, the Bakersfield Inn grew its business and expanded throughout the next few decades, even building another wing across Union Avenue, next to the famed Bakersfield Arch. However times changed. According to the Bakersfield Californian, when the Highway 99 was a couple of miles west in 1962, the businesses along Union saw traffic and visitors really slow down.
Bakersfield Inn (Closed)
Today, the Bakersfield Inn building is home to the Kennemer Center, a rehabilitation center. Nearby, the Bakersfield arch also fell into disrepair and was removed from the intersection of Union and California. The letters were saved and installed on the new arch located on Buck Owens Boulevard just outside of the Buck Owens' Crystal Palace. More photos of the former Bakersfield Inn are found below.
