Motel
Fresno, CA

This motel and suites in Fresno can be seen from off the main highway. Unfortunately, all of the lettering was removed about a year ago and hasn't been replaced. It may be gone forever.

Motel
Bakersfield, CA

Here's a motel that somewhat near Bakersfield, off the 99. Grab some gas, eat at the cafe, and sleep in the motel. Yep, we're talking one stop shop, or stop, here.

Sage Motel
King City, CA

The Sage Motel's marquee sign is relatively unremarkable, but it's great that it's not some old backlit plastic sign like so many others.

Bel Air Motel
Fresno, CA

The Bel Air Motel still looks like it did some 40 years ago, with its liberal use of flagcrete surrounding the front. The marquee no longer lights up the night though.

Colonial Motor Motel
Bakersfield, CA

Here's the Colonial Motor Hotel in Bakersfield. The arrow points down to the outline of "color TV" lettering on its board, though the vacancy doesn't light up any more.

Cinderella Motel
Hollister, CA

The Cinderella Motel features a sign that's not necessarily "Cinderella" like in form, though welcome.

California Motel
Bakersfield, CA

Here's an old streamline sign still sitting along the road in Bakersfield.

Astro Motel
Fresno, CA

Just the name Astro conjures up images of space age ports, flying vehicles, and even the Jetson's dog. Here's the Astro Motel with a radiant orb atop its roof, perhaps transmitting interplanetary signals?

White's Motel (Demolished)
Mojave, CA

Here's White's Motel in Mojave, near the airplane graveyard. The rather prominent advertising of "television" is a sign of the era this marquee came from.

UPDATE 02/08 : White's Motel in Mojave is now gone. Many thanks to Dave van Hulsteyn for update. 02-08

Whites Motel Annex Sign
Mojave, CA

UPDATE 12/08 : The "Whites Motel" "Television" neon was no longer standing in Mojave. The motel has been taken over by a chain. This photo of the remnants of this annex neon in a vacant lot behind the motel was taken a few years earlier. Many thanks to Dan MacPherson for annex photo and update. 12-08

Marco Polo Motel (Removed)
Visalia, CA

Visalia is a town just east of the 99 in the Central California area. Check out the Marco Polo Motel, which is one of the first signs you'll encounter as you get into the city off the highway.

UPDATE 12/08 : The Marco Polo Motel marquee has been removed and replaced by a plain sign that just says "Marco Polo Inn". 12-08
