The City Motel in Fresno points the way into the lodging area. This is another old marquee whose paint has faded with time. Yes, the sign also points the way to the free TV.
Here's another old sign for the Fowler Motel that's faded like many of the others.
Visalia is a town just east of the 99 in the Central California area. Check out the Marco Polo Motel, which is one of the first signs you'll encounter as you get into the city off the highway. UPDATE 12/08 : The Marco Polo Motel marquee has been removed and replaced by a plain sign that just says "Marco Polo Inn". 12-08
Here's an old motor hotel complex, complete with dining room area. The Royale Palms Motor Hotel still serves up to visitors in Bakersfield.
The Hal Mar Inn still appears to be serving guests, though the motel rooms themselves also have that abandoned look about them. In either, the fancy marquee out front still sits by the roadside.
The Gables Motel in Fresno along motel row still features a couple of fine marquees. The sign on the near right shows a couple of arrows pointing in different directions. To the far right, the sign advertises the motel itself.
This marquee for the Selma Motel is located in, uh, yes Selma.
Check out this sign for the Sierra Motel, also located in Selma. This sign also appears to have been around for quite some time.
Check out the roadside marquee for the Kern Motel, still in McFarland, CA.
