UPDATE 08/05 : The drive in at Smiths Ranch in Twenty nine Palms is still showing movies. This year they have switched to one per night, no more double features. But you can take a lounge chair, your ice chest and snacks and sit outside and watch that big screen action under the stars. It is great fun. Many thanks to Linda Winters for update 08-05
The Skyline Drive-In located in Barstow, CA sits on the outskirts of this old mining town. Close to the Interstate 15, the Skyline still opens on a daily basis. To the bottom right is a shot of the Skyline theatre with the its new 2nd screen in the background at the right. Now there's a second choice of movie for a given night.
Whew, what is that smell? On a hot, humid evening in Imperial, California,
the Motor Vu Drive-in Theatre sits and waits for its first car.
And sits. And waits even more. Was it the putrid smell, or the high humidity?
Whatever it was, cars weren't exactly storming through the gates on this The lot is home to a classic marquee, worth the price (or drive) of admission alone. Just don't be like yours truly and head the wrong way on Aten Road despite racing against the sun.
