Original Joe's is a restaurant and bar that serves up American and Italian food (I believe). It's in the "Tenderloin" neighborhood, but it has had it's better days.

Check out this bright sign for Pring's Sea Food, and its happy cow.

UPDATE 04/05 : The Pring's restaurant in San Leandro is still in business as far as I know. The restaurant has good home cooking, and sweet, or ornery classic "Flo" type waitresses. The pies and pastries are to die for! The place is like walking right into to 50's or 60's. Many thanks to John from Carson City for update. 04-05

UPDATE 09/06 : The building is still there and possibly the sign, but it is now an Italian Restaurant. The old Pring's is no more. Many thanks to Christine Safieddine for update. 09-06

Looking for some good eats at a place with neon signs galore? Then Spenger's Grotto in Berkeley is the place to be.

The Original Joe's in San Jose is quite the night stop in town. Check out the fancy neon script on the side building.

Looking to grab an Italian dinner while in the Bay area? How does the Gold Spike sound? Though the name may not sound Italian, at least the neon marquee outside looks like a spike and lights up to boot.

The Trails Charcoal Broiler looks to be a very tasty place to go for some eats. The Trails is a little roadside joint that's found in Sacramento somewhat near the Tower District.

Fresh Pond Cafeteria

Here's the marquee for the Fresh Pond, long out of business. And no wonder – would you eat at a place called the Fresh Pond? Maybe as a frog.

UPDATE 04/05 : The Fresh Pond cafeteria was named for a local landmark. The Greyhound busses always had this as a pit stop between South Lake Tahoe and points towards the SFO Bay Area, at least in the 60's and 70's. The food was actually pretty good. Seems that once the buses quit stopping there, it folded. The sign may now be gone. It used to be quite busy when the buses pulled in. Many thanks to John from Carson City for update. 04-05
