Here is more ghost hotel signage, this one painted on the side of the Hotel Regis of Sacramento.
This ghost signage advertises "steam heat, hot & cold water, telephone and elevator." A throwback to the time when such amenities meant luxor.
Looking for a good hotel to stay at at a reasonable price? How about $2.00 to $4.00 per week and meals at 35cents? The New York Hotel was such a place... in Stockton.
Kendall's is the place to go for gifts and office equipment in the pre Office Depot/Staples era.
Need more stationery? Then stop by the Kress nearby in Stockton.
Buffet and drinks... famous for foods. How can a hungry traveler pass up this advertisement? Hastings This sign for Hastings still features a doggy that looks like an ancestor of Spud McKenzie.
This lettering still sits outside of Green's Furs and Fashions in Sacramento.
The Hotel Berry still features moderate rates. But the real question is, just who is this guy painted on the Original Mac's sign? UPDATE 04/06 : The guy on the sign is Mac Nesmon. He and his brother owned and operated Original Mac's. They were from New York city. I first ate there in the Fall of 1955. I lived in Rancho Cordova for 46 years. Many thanks to Robert B. Lynch for info. 04-06
Here's an old eerie sign for the Globe Mills of West Sacramento. This image is on one of its tanks outside.
How about some Malt O Meal?
