An old treasure in San Diego's Hillcrest/Banker's Hill neighborhood since 1910, the Royal Food Mart's neon has glowed since the 1930's. A new addition to the building is the "Chatterbox Cafe", a 90's style "foofie" coffee shop recently added on.
Hungry for some good Chinese food? Well, Jimmy Wong's Golden Dragon Restaurant on University Ave. may be the place to go for a real meal.
Hungry for something to eat and it's 3 a.m.? Then stop into Rudford's Restaurant off El Cajon Blvd. for a breakfast and coffee.
If you're hungry, it's 3 a.m., and you're near Magnolia St. in El Cajon, then stop by the old standby... yes, Denny's! Denny's is always open 24 hours for a Moons or burger.
If you're hungry, it's 3 a.m., but you absolutely do not want to eat at Rudford's again, check out Kozak's Coffee Shop off Main St. in El Cajon. Not sure of its hours, but you can check it out. At least the neon is worth the stop even if its closed.
In Coronado on Orange Avenue is the Night & Day Cafe. Serves hot eats 'round the clock. This place perhaps goes back to the 30's or 40's and possibly was a popular stop for WWII sailors after a night on the town in San Diego.
Possibly worth a stop for some Chinese food is the Peking Cafe on University Ave. in San Diego. Definitely worth a stop for a photo of the neon sign though.
What a coincidence, seen here at the right is the Turf Club. Don't forget to drop by for a drink or two, especially on the warm summer nights. Then again, you'll miss the warm summer night by going inside. Oh well.
