Here's the familiar sign for The Golden Spur restaurant along Route 66 in Glendora. Word is the Golden Spur opened around 80 years ago and once primarily served up burgers. 11-05

 

The Derby

On the left is the parking lot sign for The Derby restaurant in Arcadia. According to their website, The Derby was opened in 1938 by George Woolf, the jockey who rode Seabiscuit to victory in the "Race of the Century". 11-05

 

 

Sycamore Inn

The Sycamore Inn along Route 66 in Rancho Cucamonga has served the public since 1920. 06-07

 

 

El Torito
San Francisco, CA

In this photo taken over 30 years ago, the owner of a new Ford Pinto had stopped for chow long at El Torito before Mexican food became common place in the Midwest. This shade of green was second only to brown as the color of choice for 1970's cars. 07-07

 

Derby East (Demolished)

The Derby East was a Southland landmark along Route 66 back when it used to be called the Old Hickory for decades. A sister site to The Derby in Arcadia, the Derby East was demolished for yet another Walgreens drug store. 04-08

The Derby East also used to show live entertainment. 04-08

The Trails Restaurant (Demolished)

The Trails Restaurant in Duarte, CA was a local hangout and historic roadside location. Located off of Route 66, The Trails opened in 1951 and closed 50 years later. The Trails was eventually demolished in 2002 for a new condo development, despite protests from preservationists. 04-08
