Off the Pennsylvania turnpike is a true gem of a diner. The Venus Diner was established in 1959 and is impeccably maintained. So next time you're traveling on the turnpike, take a detour off on Exit 4 and save your appetite for some true country cooking.

UPDATE 07/07 : The Venus Diner is closed. Tried to make a visit on June 6, 2007. What a disappointment. Many thanks to Liz Eustace for update. 07-07

Prospect Mountain Diner

This Silk City type of diner was built in 1950. Check out the neon lettering and siding at the Prospect Mountain Diner. 01-07

UPDATE 04/08 : The Prospect Mountain Diner was destroyed by fire in May of 2007 and has indeed been demolished.  A replacement diner has been delivered to the site in December 2007. More information can also be found at Poststar.com. Many thanks to Nancy Warner for update. 04-08

The Stardust Diner features great neon lettering, somewhat reminiscent of an old Vegas classic that's soon to be leaving us forever. The Stardust is a great stop after seeing a play on Broadway, featuring singing waiters/waitresses serving heaps of food. And who knows, you may see the person serving you may be hitting it big on Broadway soon after your meal. 01-07
