Here is the Silver State Lodge in Reno, NV. Back in the late 90's the ancient cabins and octagon house had been sold to a house for wayward girls. They were scheduled to be moved.
This is (was) a lonely stretch of road west of town. This place is a treasure, with the white tree stumps, rock borders and rustic cabins. Such a shame Reno does not recognize the significance of these structures. The lodge was still there in '99 and '00, however a lot of construction activity has been taking place there since then. The marquee used to light up at night, inviting prospective guests for a stay over.
The Silver State Lodge was located on 4th Street and unfortunately, as of October 2005, all that is left of this treasure is the marquee. As shown in the photo on the left, the lot is now dirt and the property is fenced off. Many thanks to Don MacPherson for above photos and information
Silver State Lodge (Sep '03) Below are more photos of the lodging at the Silver State. These photos of the fenced-in Silver State Lodge were taken in September 2003. There were some log cabin style units at the front of the properties and a number of concrete block units in the rear. 10-05
UPDATE 03/08 : Here are photos from the Silver State Lodge taken recently in December, 2007. Many thanks to Wes Cross for update. 03-08
Another Reno mid-century gem has disappeared off the roadside landscape.
