Carolina Theatre
Hickory, NC

The Carolina Theatre in downtown Hickory was probably quite nice with its original signage but the plain block lettering in bright red plastic was probably not what the architects had in mind. The theatre's website can be found here. 05-08

Webb Theatre
Gastonia, NC

The Webb Theatre in Gastonia, NC is located on South Street. Built in 1927, the Webb was placed on the National Register study list on April 9, 1997. 05-08


Peoples Theatre
Roanoke Rapids, NC

The Peoples Theatre is the old theatre in Roanoke Rapids, NC.  It is located on the Roanoke Avenue.  There has been some local community support to try and save it. 08-08

Downtown Cinema Theatre

The Downtown Cinema Theatre is still open for business in the town of Mt Airy, NC. 10-08

Triad Stage at the Pyrle Theatre

The Triad Stage at the Pyrle Theatre is located in Greensboro, NC. The Pyrle is housed in a former Montgomery Wards building that had ben built in 1936 and was vacant for almost 40 years. The grand opening of the theatre took place in January 2002 and is owned and is the home to the Triad Stage Theatre. For more information, see the Triad Stage website. 02-09

Center Theatre
High Point, NC

The High Point Theatre is owned and operated by the City of High Point. Built in 1975, the Center Theatre is a performing arts facility that is open year round. For more information, see the High Point Theatre website. 02-09

Bradley Theatre (Closed)
Columbus, GA

This one taken in the summer of 2008 of the Bradley Theater in Columbus GA. It's in the old downtown area and closed. The theatre originally opened in 1940. 04-09

 

 

Carver Theatre
Birmingham, AL

Check out the Carver Theatre in Birmingham, AL. The Carver Theatre was built in 1935 and according to the Carver Theatre website, was one of several theatres in the Fourth Avenue area offering first-run movies to African-Americans. In 1990, the City of Birmingham renovated the Carver to a performing arts theatre. The non-profit theatre is now home to the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame and museum. 04-09

Alabama Theatre
Birmingham, AL

Check out the blade neon sign for the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham. The Alabama Theatre was built in 1927 by Paramount Studios and was used as a movie house for 55 years. In 1987, the owners of the Alabama declared bankruptcy and was purchased by a non-profit organization who restored the theatre.
