Off 30th Street in San Diego resides the local favorite Aztec Bowl. Featuring standard googie lettering on both its marquee and side-wall signage, the Aztec is one of the few remaining survivors of the ten-pin alley age.

Update 07/05 : The letters for the Aztec Bowl has been located in the San Diego area. The photo to the right includes the remains of the old Aztec Bowl... inside the Zombie Lounge (about a mile east from the old Aztec Bowl). It's a good thing this sign is still in good use. Who doesn't want to waste a great historical sign like that? Many thanks to Ken Lux for this update and photo. 07-05

Cougar Bowl (Palomar Lanes) (Demolished)

Cougar Bowl in Escondido sports the familiar block lettering of the bowl-o-rama years.

Update 12/06 : The “Palomar Lanes” in Escondido, California is shown as “Cougar Bowl.” The name “Cougar Bowl” was an aberration that only lasted a year or so. The real name from the beginning and once again at the end was “Palomar Lanes.” A historic portion of the building adjacent to the entrance was constructed to look like the Hale 200” telescope observatory dome. Unfortunately, Palomar Lanes was demolished a few years back now to make way for some rather ugly high rise condos (which are just now being completed). Many thanks to Dan Cook for update. 12-06

Surf Bowl

Surf Bowl in Oceanside is in the middle of a main drag through the city. If traffic gets too heavy, stopover for some 'surf & bowl'.

To the near right is the Surf Bowl pre-2000. The marquee has received a nice facelift and color scheme as seen to the far right.
