Bowlero Lanes
Ontario, Canada

While ten pin alleys are dropping like flies (at least the unique marquees) in the States, the sign for Bowlero Lanes still stands proudly in Ontario, Canada. Pay this place a visit and bowl a few games while in town.

Check out Echo Lanes in Cuba, NY. This place looks like its close cousin, the typical skating rink. Eye-catching colors on the walls of this ten pin alley will catch the eye of the roadside traveler looking to bowl a few frames. 11-00

UPDATE 12/05 : Echo Lanes has closed its doors as its owner passed away recently. Many thanks to David Wagner for update. 12-05

The Dixie Bowling alley in Elmira, NY looks like a throwback to the pre-war days. Imagine a scene taking place here where a soldier kisses his loved one goodbye... Ok, I guess that's one movie too many. 11-00

Sterling Bowl
New Hyde Park, NY

Over in New Hyde Park, NY is a very special bowling alley called the Sterling Bowl. What is most interesting about this structure is that the small building on top only serves as a lobby and entrance. Once you enter, take an elevator ride (or stairs) to the lower bowling level where you find the entire bowling alley, front desk, restaurant, and bar underneath the parking lot!

No wonder the sign in the picture at the below left blares "NO TRUCKS PERMITTED!"

The interior of the treasure is classic Googie from the lights to the Terazzo flooring.

(Left) Check out the entranceway and "NO TRUCKS" sign...

UPDATE 09/04 : Sterling Bowl closed in 2001 and has since been replaced by an underground entertainment center called "Strike!" which has cosmic bowling and go-karts and things like that. Still has that small building on top and everything else under the parking lot, but sad to say, that old-time bowling alley is gone. Many thanks to John from Glen Oaks for this update. 09-04
