Here's the old coffee shop that graces the Hotel Whitman in downtown Pocatello. The building was originally constructed in 1905 and has served a number of purposes over the years. At various times it housed the Eagles Lodge, the Princess Theater, and several hotel operations including the Hotel Nicollet before becoming the Hotel Whitman.

The building has long been one of Pocatello's more recognizable downtown landmarks. Its history reflects the many changes that have taken place along Main Street over the past century as the city grew and evolved.

UPDATE: The Whitman no longer operates as a traditional hotel, but the historic building has been preserved and renovated. The upper floors now serve as apartments, while portions of the ground floor have been adapted for commercial use. The building's distinctive vertical Whitman sign has also been restored, helping preserve a piece of downtown Pocatello history. 10-06

Panguitch, Utah is home to the Flying V Coffee Shop. This coffee shop was all decked out in neon when these photos were taken. Located near Bryce Canyon National Park, the Flying V would have been a familiar sight for both local residents and travelers passing through town.

The building featured extensive neon outlining the facade along with prominent "Coffee Shop" lettering that was hard to miss after dark. Signs like this were common along the highways of the West, helping attract motorists looking for a meal, a cup of coffee, or a place to take a break from the road. 01-09

UPDATE: The Flying V Coffee Shop is now gone. While the neon and coffee shop have faded into local history, photographs like these preserve a colorful reminder of the roadside businesses that once greeted visitors heading toward Bryce Canyon and southern Utah's scenic destinations. 01-09
