The Cinema 1 Theatre no longer shows first run movies,
and in fact, no longer shows movies at all. According to Cinema Treasures, this theatre originally opened in 1935 as the El Rey Theatre.
Crystal Theatre

shows, no attendance. Is this theatre destined for a renewal with an updated
neon sign blade or is it headed for the big theatre in the sky? Time will
tell.
Reel Joy Theatre

The old Reel Joy Theatre in King City doesn't appear to show movies
anymore, even though the exterior still looked to be in good condition.

Nile Theatre

As you travel through downtown Bakersfield, check out the historic Nile
Theatre, which has been around since the WWII era. This art deco
masterpiece is one of the famed S. Charles Lee designed theaters.
According to Cinema Treasures, the Nile was called the Bakersfield Opera House back when it originally opened in 1906 and became the Nile in 1924. The theatre was vacated in 1994 and as of July 2006 is now the Nile Bar & Grill. 08-05
