Here are a couple of former Chili Bowl restaurants still
found in Southern California. The Chili Bowl chain started in 1931.
Owner
and programmatic entrepreneur Arthur Whizin used to offer raffled rides
on the Chili Bowl airplane. The cafes phased out when World War II started,
leaving only the Pico Boulevard Chili Bowl open to feed Santa Monica Douglas
aircraft workers.

The Parasol

Let's see... first there are burgers at a joint that looks like a burger.
Next, a hot meal inside a parasol? At the Parasol restaurant in
Seal Beach, you can do just that. If only all parasols were in such great
a shape.
