Old Vegas
Las Vegas, NV

Postcard info courtesy Allen Sandquist

Old Vegas opened its doors in the 1970s and was a really neat place to go. The western theme park had many attractions including a mystery mine, a carousel, a train ride, a small casino (of course!) and a gunfight every hour! The inside of the fort looked like a town in the Old West.

Unfortunately, the lack of tourists and a fire in the mystery mine forced the ailing fort to close its doors forever in 1988! Wally's Wagon Wheel Casino was planned for the location, but the deal never went through. The building was demolished in 2000 after being vacant for over 10 years. A residential area is being developed on its location.

An eye-catching sight is this little round ball man with a hat. Used for various businesses at the site, the guy currently sits atop the sign for Las Islitas. 12-04

Update 09/06 : Las Islitas was really Wimpy's built back in 1965 and was Wimpy's until the middle 1990's. A lot of North Las Vegas employees use to have lunch at Wimpy's plus Wimpy's head rotated. Many thanks to Frank A Retired City Employee for update. 09-06
