Downtown San Antonio was once home to Stuarts in a building that dates to 1925. Unfortunately, the city's Historic and Landmark Review Commission voted on 12/06/06 to grant building owner Federal Realty Investment Trust's request to demolish the building and the adjoining Walgreen's building that dates to the 1800's to make way for a new expanded store for Walgreens. 01-07

Remember the venerable Montgomery Ward retail chain? Yes, it hasn't been that long Fort Worth, TX was home to this regional retail and mail order warehouse in the downtown area. Housed here since 1928, Montgomery Ward closed down in early 2001 and is now home to Montgomery Plaza with a Super Target in the back, and lofts and specialty retail shops planned for the front. More info can be found here. 02-07
