This sign for the Mel-Haven Lodge is a good example of what unique marquees were all about. Check out the sailboat on top of the sign and the colors used to catch the attention of weary motorists dreaming of rest and relaxation.
Covey Motel Here's a 40-year old postcard of the Covey Motel of Salt Lake City, UT. Not sure if this motel is still around, but the motel evidently had an eye-catching sign back in the day.
The World Motor Hotel in Salt Lake City was evidently quite a sight and most likely a great place to stay as evidenced in this 1965 postcard.

The Cottage Motel in McCammond, ID still appears to be offering lodging. The motel marquee stands weather beaten and worn as it loyally stands by its lodging area. 09-06
The red arrow points the way to the front door and office of the Y Motel, located in the town of Blackfoot, ID. 09-06
Here is an old motel and series of motel cabins. This motel is located in Twin Falls, ID. Back in the day, many of the motels and motor courts features individual type of cabins. Not sure if this motel is still open for business these days. 09-06
