Café Creole set up shop in the early 1980s on 9th Avenue in Ybor City. It was run out of the old El Pasaje Hotel, a building dating back to 1896. The restaurant is often credited with having revitalized this Cuban section of Tampa. Like Ybor City itself, the eatery was fashioned after the French Quarter of New Orleans. The menu offered Louisiana-style cuisine ranging from crawfish to jambalaya. Café Creole closed in March of 2003 leaving behind its sign as a historic landmark.
