The Fox California name was quite popular among theaters. Check out the Fox California Theatre, this one located in downtown Salinas, CA. Originally opening in the early 1920's, the Fox theatre has been closed for quite some time. Not sure what the fate is of this old treasure.
The Parkway Theatre in Oakland was built in the 1920's and features a rooftop sign that can be seen for miles. 10-05
The Park Theatre in Lafayette, CA is an old classic movie house dating back to 1941. This single screener is known for showing foreign and art house films. Unfortunately, the Park closed down its operations on September 18, 2005 and, according to its website, has been sold to new ownership. Word is the new owners do not intend to continue to operate as a movie theater. 10-05
The Orinda Theatre opened in 1941 as an art deco palace and a city landmark. After going through some tough times in the 1980's, including possible demolition, the theatre was refurbished and opened back up to the public in 1989. The Orinda Theatre is now the centerpiece of the Orinda Theatre Square shopping complex. 10-05
Check out this shot of the Castro Theatre blade marquee. This San Francisco landmark was built in the 1920's and recently underwent a renovation.
This old neighborhood theatre is located in the town of Morgan Hill. The Granada Theatre was built in the mid-1900's and still proudly displays its blade marquee out front. 02-06
The Novato Theatre in the Northern California town of Novato was built in 1948 but has been closed since the 1990's. 09-06
Here's the Uptown Theatre, located in Napa, CA. Word is the theatre, built in 1937, is being renovated. The marquee looks like it's been recently restored, though the theatre is still closed. More info at Cinema Treasures. 01-07
Check out the Del Oro Theatre, located in Grass Valley. The Del Oro opened on May 29, 1942 as a single screener. The theatre evolved into a triplex in 1993 and was subsequently renovated in 2003. More info at downtowngrassvalley.com. 01-07
Here's the Presidio Theatre in San Francisco. The owner of the 4 Star Theatre took over the Presidio, saving the theatre from closing in November 2003. Former owner was Century Theatres. 02-07
