Yes, the rumors are true... the beloved Century Cinedomes will
soon be no more. Remnants of an era just past, the Cinedomes were once
THE place to go for a first run movie. But as times change and placeholders
in history such as the Cinedomes become closed chapters. Northern California
still has a few left.

There was once not just one but two Fox Theatres in the city of
Inglewood. However, the deco Fox Cinema II was demolished recently and
the main Fox (pictured on the left) looks to be very threatened.

Hopefully,
this theatre will be graced with an audience once again. Doesn't appear
likely though.

Here's the Fox Pomona theater with its deco styled look. The Fox
sign on top still proudly proclaims the theaters heritage to passersby.

The Mayfair Theatre is a 1940's era theatre complete with streamline deco elements. Or was. Designed by renowned
architect S. Charles Lee, the Mayfair was taken down in August 2004. While everyone
knew it was a treasure, the results of a fire rendered the building
unusable. 01-06
Fox Theatre (Demolished)
Covina, CA Photo by RoadsidePeek.com
The Fox Theatre of Covina was
once one of the central points of new blockbuster hits in the San Gabriel
Valley. But alas, the standing room only crowds dwindled and by the late
80's, the Fox Covina became better known as a good place to throw popcorn
at empty seats. This theater began showing Indian movies in the early
90's, but its recent status is closed and fate unknown.
UPDATE 2004 : The Fox Theatre in Covina as well
as much of the block has been demolished.

This old Fox Theatre has now been converted into an indoor swap
meet. At the last the large vertical facade still remains, though its
heyday as a golden movie theatre seems to be long gone.
