Welcome to the Coney I'Lander, located along Route 66 in Tulsa. Coney I'Lander has been serving hungry customers since 1926, when Greek immigrant Christ Economou opened his first hot dog shop in downtown Tulsa. Nearly a century later, the business remains one of the city's most recognizable food institutions.
The restaurant became famous for its Tulsa-style coney dogs, topped with a distinctive all-meat chili, mustard, and onions. What started as a single downtown lunch counter eventually grew into a local chain with multiple locations throughout the Tulsa area. For generations of Tulsans, a stop at Coney I'Lander has become a tradition every bit as much as a meal.
The Route 66 location on 11th Street helped introduce countless travelers to one of Tulsa's signature foods. Sitting along one of the most heavily traveled stretches of the Mother Road, the restaurant became a popular stop for both locals and visitors looking for a quick bite and a taste of a long-standing Oklahoma tradition. UPDATE: Coney I'Lander continues to operate multiple locations throughout the Tulsa area. While individual storefronts and signs have changed over the years, the brand remains one of Oklahoma's longest-running restaurant traditions, still serving its famous coney dogs nearly a century after Christ Economou first opened for business in 1926. 06-26
