Powerhouse
St Louis, MO

Photos and info courtesy Richard Weiss

Here are a couple of shots of an old powerhouse in St Louis, MO. Wouldn't it be something if we could get an office building with the kind of style and detail and craftsmanship as in an old powerhouse? Exactly next to this was another powerhouse, which may have been a competing power company. It was totally gutted and was undergoing conversion into a visitors center. 06-07

Lemp Brewery
St Louis, MO

Photos and info courtesy Richard Weiss

Here are a couple of photos of the former Lemp Brewery complex in St Louis. The brewery is mostly abandoned but still complete. The brewery was closed during the prohibition years and was sold to the International Shoe Company, which in its day also must have been fairly large. I do not know when it closed for good and there was little sign of any activity of any kind on the day at the site, but there was a sign outside stating that the entire complex would be converted into condo's. 06-07

On the other side of the arch is this Grunden Martin warehouse. It is in a large section of old warehouses, most of which are vacant. 06-07

Sanders Plant
Detroit, MI

Photos and info courtesy Richard Weiss

Here is the old long abandoned Sanders Plant in Detroit, MI. Morley candy bought out Sanders about 10 years ago and moved production to the suburbs. The Sanders lettering was removed from the front of the building sometime prior to mid-June 2007. 06-07

Update 02/07 : Sanders was a Detroit tradition for over a century when they closed down all the stores. The company that took over the Sanders name has started reopening them. Many thanks to Richard Weiss for update. 02-07
