The Grand Theatre located in the downtown area of Douglas, AZ opened in 1919. Designed by architect M. Eugene Durfee, the art deco theatre was home to live stage events and movies until it closed in1958. The Grand Theatre was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. For a time, the Grand Theatre was considered to be the largest and most beautiful theatre between Los Angeles and San Antonio.

Over the years, the theatre deteriorated like many of the movie palaces across the country. The theatre experienced significant water damage on the interior and a collapsed roof. The theatre is currently being renovated. 06-23
