For a good meal, stop by the Farmer John's Pancake House in Bakersfield. This place features not only breakfast, but steaks, chicken, carne asada, and you name it.

Unfortunately you can no longer grab a bit to eat at Farmer John's. This place is now an empty lot.

9Chateau Basque Restaurant
Bakersfield, CA

Updated 09/01 : The Chateau Basque was a very nice sit down restaurant that served up Italian/Spanish food family style. Every thing was handed around in big bowls and each meal was many courses. Bread, salad, pasta, meat, vegetables, dessert. I remember a lot of wine flowing at the table. Wow. It was a great place. Many thanks to Stefanie Apel for update above. 09-01

White Elephant (Sign removed)
Taft, CA

Check out the sign outside the White Elephant Steak House in Taft, CA. This elephant looks like the GOP logo.

Update 06/05 : The sign had been replaced with a plastic backlit sign for a Mariscos Mexican restaurant. The only trace of the elephant was on the metal gate in the front, and they had covered it up with their open sign. I don't know if the sign was trashed or saved. Many thanks to Tony Craig for update. 06-05

Sno-white Drive-in
McFarland, CA

The Sno-white Drive-in eatery still features an interesting roadside sign off the 99. This sign looks like it may have had sisters and brothers as there's a very similar sign located in Riverbank.
