The Lanai Bar (Demolished)
San Mateo, CA

The Lanai Bar featured an eye-catching palm sign when it was in business back in the day. The Lanai, a glorious Tiki bar in the 1950s style, was demolished in 1989 to make way for a Walgreens. The Lanai was located along El Camino Real in San Mateo. 02-09

San Francisco, CA is home to yet another fine roadside pub sign. The St. Marys Pub features what appears to be an old neon sign that's protected by a plastic shield. Check out the requisite martini glass on top of the sign. 07-09

Here's a nice rooftop neon sign for The Eight Ball. The Eight Ball is a roadside bar found off the highway in Cotati, CA and its 8 ball sign can be seen from quite a distance away. Cotati is a town located just south of Santa Rosa in Northern California. 07-09

Check out this martini glass sign at the Liar's Bench in Placerville, CA. I wonder where the origins of the name Liar's Bench came from. 07-09

Check out the neon lettering on this marquee for Old Ironsides in Sacramento, CA. Old Ironsides recently turned 70 years old. For more information, check out the website for Old Ironsides. 07-09

Pete's (Closed, now Wilson Way Tire Co.)
Stockton, CA

Here's Pete's in Stockton, CA. Or rather, the Wilson Way Tire Co. From the looks of things, the tire company took over the former site of a bar or tavern and stuck a wheel in the martini glass on the sign. 10-09
