The Sands Motel and its upright marquee can still be found along the main route heading to San Jose.
How about the Mission Motel and its neon marquee, glowing off the roadside. A bit further out of town, passers-by can nonetheless run into this neon delight as they head and out of the city... not on the expressway of course.
The City Center Motel marquee is just down the block from the motel itself... but it's situated in such a way that the sign just can not be missed by the passing motorists.
At dusk, the flamingos come out to say hello at the passing motorists. This scene can still be seen out front of the Flamingo Motel in San Jose, CA.
Check out the bright neon star standing out fittingly on the sign for the Star Motel in San Francisco. 09-09
Off on the east side of the 395 is the El Rancho Motel with its shining star.
Check out this marquee at the Rollin' Wheels Motel in Chicago, IL. The motel sign is a throwback to the era when having a TV and air conditioned were considered selling points to the weary travelers looking for a nice place to spend the evening and grab a rest. 12-10
The Rainbow Motel is another of the old roadside motels in Chicago, IL. The Rainbow features a marquee that is not only brightly colored. It also features a neon rainbow that spans across the top of the marquee. 12-10
