Here's one of Gallup's great signs, the Lariat Lodge, that can be seen right off of the Mother Road.

Here's a Route 66 shot of the lodge as well.

 

UPDATE 11/20 : The Santa Fe Lodge closed and the marquee was moved down the street and still survives.

The Kit Carson Inn is an old roadside motel located in Cimarron, NM.

 

 

Trail Motel

Here's another old motel marquee located in the New Mexico town of Truth or Consequences. The advertisement for TV on the roadside marquee is a dead ringer for an older mid-century establishment as well as the starburst on the top of the sign.

To the left is a shot of the famous Arrow Motel. This Espanola landmark features a marquee that uses neon to create an animation effect of shooting the arrow.

 

UPDATE 11-07 : Here's another shot of the Arrow Motel marquee from the other side of the sign.

UPDATE 11/20 : The Arrow Motel sign was removed a few years ago and is in the hands of a collector. The motel has been closed for some time.

 

 

Western Stars Motel (Closed)

This old roadside motel sign sits in front of the Western Stars Motel in Nara Vista, NM. Not sure if the text on the sign stating "sleep in under the stars" refers to the parking lot as this motel is closed. 06-06

 

 

Paradise Motel (Gone)

Route 66Here's the Paradise Motel and its image of a diver on its marquee. This sign and motel is located off the main highway in Tucumcari, NM.

 

UPDATE 11/20 : The Paradise Motel marquee is now gone and is in the hands of a collector in Wisconsin. The building itself has withstood many fires and is still somewhat standing though burned out on the edge of town.

 

 

La Loma Motel
