The Granada Theatre in Plainview, Texas stands tall wondering where all the customers have gone. The Granada opened for business in 1929 and was well known for the stars and constellations displayed on the ceiling. In the late 1970's, the theatre was split into two screens, then closed in 1997. More info can be found in a January 2007 article from the Plainview Daily Herald. 02-07

The Route 66 town of McLean TX is home to the Avalon Theater. Located in the historic commercial district which sits between the east and west directions of Route 66 which is split into two one way streets, the Avalon looked a bit fragile when visiting. This theater which opened back in the 1920s or 1930s was in business for about 50 or 60 years.

Unfortunately, fund raising efforts to salvage the theater were not successful. Sure enough, the Avalon Theater was torn down in August 2017. The theater posed to be a safety hazard and there apparently was no other alternative other than the bulldozer.

More information can be found at Route 66 News and Cinema Treasures. 08-21
