You don't see many gas stations shaped like dinosaurs. The giant Sinclair Gas Station in Weeki Wachee was built in 1964 to resemble Sinclair's famous Brontosaurus mascot, making it one of Florida's most memorable roadside attractions. 02-08
Originally serving travelers with gas and repairs, the enormous dinosaur quickly became a landmark in its own right. Standing nearly 50 feet tall, it's the kind of place that has been making motorists do a double take for generations.
The Sinclair station is long gone, but the dinosaur lives on as Harold's Auto Center. It's a fun reminder of the days when gas stations didn't just sell fuel, they gave travelers something to remember.
UPDATE: The dinosaur building still stands as Harold's Auto Center and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2020. 07-26 |
