This old bank building has been a Gastonia landmark for decades. Citizens South Bank of Gastonia is a well known name in the area. Many thanks to Richard Weiss for info. 06-11

The grand entrance of the Citizens Bank building is hard to miss. With its tall columns and impressive stone façade, it still looks every bit like the financial centerpiece of downtown Gastonia. 10-08

The building took on its present appearance in the 1920s and served local banking customers for many years before finding new life as county offices and an arts center. Like many old downtown banks, it adapted as the city changed, but never lost its classic appearance.

Today the landmark is once again being restored, this time for a mix of new businesses and gathering spaces. It's nice to see another historic downtown building getting a second chance.

UPDATE: The former Citizens National Bank Building is being renovated for a new chapter while preserving its historic exterior. 08-26
