Most old drug stores were happy with one sign. Counts Drugs had two. Sitting on the corner in downtown Wytheville, one marquee wrapped around the entrance while another watched over the side street. If the neon was glowing after dark, this must have been one good-looking corner. 06-10
There's something about an old Main Street drug store that just feels right, and Counts had all the ingredients. The brick building, the corner location, and those matching marquees gave it the kind of personality that's becoming harder to find. It's easy to imagine people meeting here, picking up a prescription, or just stopping in for a few minutes while the signs quietly watched over Main Street.

Counts Drugs served the community for more than 65 years before closing in 2021. Fortunately, the building didn't lose the feature that made it so memorable. The vintage marquees remain in place, giving downtown Wytheville a nice reminder of its drugstore days.
UPDATE: The pharmacy closed in 2021, but both historic marquees have been preserved on the building. 07-26
