Carolina Theatre

The Carolina Theatre in downtown Hickory was probably quite nice with its original signage but the plain block lettering in bright red plastic was probably not what the architects had in mind. 05-08

Webb Theatre

The Webb Theatre in Gastonia, NC is located on South Street. Built in 1927, the Webb was placed on the National Register study list on April 9, 1997. 05-08

 

 

Peoples Theatre
Roanoke Rapids, NC

The Peoples Theatre is the old theatre in Roanoke Rapids, NC.  It is located on the Roanoke Avenue.  There has been some local community support to try and save it. 08-08

 

 

Earle Theatre (formerly Downtown Cinema
Mt Airy, NC

The Downtown Cinema Theatre is still open for business in the town of Mt Airy, NC. 10-08

 

UPDATE 05/13 : The Surry Arts Council changed the name of the Downtown Cinema to the Earle Theatre in 2011. The letters that spell "cinema" in the photo have been replaced with the letters for the Earle.

The theatre opened in 1938 for the premiere of Gone with the Wind. After closing its doors in 1985, the owner at that time Carmike Cinemas donated the theatre to the Surry Arts Council. Movies began showing again in 1994. 05-13

 

 

Triad Stage at the Pyrle Theatre

The Triad Stage at the Pyrle Theatre is located in Greensboro, NC. The Pyrle is housed in a former Montgomery Wards building that had been built in 1936 and was vacant for almost 40 years. The grand opening of the theatre took place in January 2002 and is owned and is the home to the Triad Stage Theatre. For more information, see the Triad Stage website. 02-09

 

 

Center Theatre
High Point, NC

The High Point Theatre is owned and operated by the City of High Point. Built in 1975, the Center Theatre is a performing arts facility that is open year round. For more information, see the High Point Theatre website. 02-09
