The Gila County Courthouse was built in 1905. It is now the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts. It is a fun place to go in Arizona. 11-05

UPDATE 10/06 : The old Gila County Courthouse was built in 1906. The fourth floor was commercial offices and storage. The third floor was the court rooms and the judges chambers. The second floor was offices, and the first floor was other uses. The Gila County jail was built in 1909. A bridge was constructed connecting the courthouse and jail. That bridge was used for transporting prisoners from jail to courthouse for their sentencing. I believe several people were hung from that bridge. The courthouse used from 1906 to 1976. In the early 1980’s, a group of local artists banded together to form the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts. They established and art gallery and theater system for the community in the building. They continue to work on restoring the historic property. Many thanks to Patrick Ryan for update. 10-06
