Just the name Astro conjures up images of space age ports, flying vehicles,
and even the Jetson's dog. Here's the Astro Motel with a radiant
orb atop its roof, perhaps transmitting interplanetary signals?

The Cinderella Motel features a sign that's not necessarily "Cinderella"
like in form, though welcome.

Here's White's Motel in Mojave, near the airplane graveyard. The rather prominent advertising
of "television" is a sign of the era this marquee came from.
UPDATE 02/08 : White's Motel in Mojave is now gone. Many thanks to Dave van Hulsteyn for update. 02-08

UPDATE 12/08 : The "Whites Motel" "Television" neon is no longer standing in Mojave. The motel has been taken over by a chain. This photo of the remnants of this annex neon in a vacant lot behind the motel was taken a few years earlier. Many thanks to Dan MacPherson for annex photo and update. 12-08
Desert
Star Motel (Original Sign Gone)
"Sleep off the Hi-Way"
Bakersfield, CA Photo by RoadsidePeek.com
It's amazing to see how much places and signage can change in the span
of a few years. Years back, travelers along the old 99 in Bakersfield
would be met with a huge marquee pointing the way in to the Desert
Star Motel while advertising "Sleep off the Hi-way".
Well, the moniker may still be around, but only on a very small plastic
sign. Hmm... which version of this sign would be best at catching the eye of potential visitors?
Far left photo shows the original sign. The much less cool new version is in the photo to the right.

The Ayres Motel located in Fresno still features an
old roadside sign flashing back to the days when these old motor courts
were the place to spend the night. From the looks of things, this old motel is still in business today.
