Just the name Astro conjures up images of space age ports, flying vehicles, and even the Jetson's dog. Here's the Astro Motel with a radiant orb atop its roof, perhaps transmitting interplanetary signals? An old roadside motel's name gets removed along Highway 99. Yes, another roadside treasure disappeared with the removal of the 99 Motel marquee in Atwater, CA. With the demolition of the Peter N' Rae's Cafe just up the street, not much remains in this Route 99 town.

Check out the 99 Motel here at Roadside Peek's Lost Treasures 99 Motel.

The Bakersfield Inn was located along the old Highway 99 in the Central Valley town of Bakersfield. Built in 1929, the Bakersfield Inn grew its business and expanded throughout the next few decades, even building another wing across Union Avenue, next to the famed Bakersfield Arch.
