Other classic mid-century dealerships still exist today. However, local
government pressures as well as a region's economical climate have shut
down many of these old vanguards. Fortunately, local officials as well
as conservation groups have recognized that these buildings symbolize
the automobile age in history and have worked to save many of the buildings
that were once on the demolition block. The Clippinger Chevrolet sign has stood the test of time.
Ostrom Chevrolet (Removed) Photo courtesy Georg Balandran
This Ostrom Chevrolet marquee may be relatively nondescript in
nature, but hearkens back to an era when every car dealership had a huge
sign advertising its lot.
UPDATE 08/08 : The Ostrom sign was removed when the dealership was remodeled a few years ago. 08-08
The old dealerships usually concentrated around the prestigious domestic
name brands during the era such as Buick, Cadillac, and Oldsmobile. This one is for the Simpson Buick in Fullerton, not to be confused with the old mid-century one in Downey.

This arrow headed Pontiac sign at Scott
Pontiac in El Monte is a prime example of the marquee that used to
be commonplace at Pontiac dealerships decades ago.
UPDATE 12/06 : The Pontiac sign has now been removed. Many thanks to Scott MacPherson and Tom Rice for update. 12-06

This whimsical sign advertising used cars looks both aged yet
new at the same time.
Not sure if the lot used to house something other than used cars in the
past.

Hmm... guess how long this auto dealership has been around? Since the
70's? No, earlier. Stiegler Auto features a colored marquee
that's quite eye-catching along busy Ventura Boulevard.
