Roadside Cafes Texas

Hickory Inn Cafe
Vega, TX

Here's a shot of the Hickory Inn Cafe taken about 20 years ago. The cafe and sign still look relatively the same these days. Word is this family owned cafe has good comfort food, both breakfast and lunch.

A few years ago, there were props that appeared to capitalize on the popularity of the movie Cars including the popular Tow Mater. As of 2021, the old tow truck was still there but the Cars theme is gone. More photos to come. 08-21

At the midpoint marker that is supposedly exactly half way between Santa Monica and Chicago on the Route 66 route is the rather well known Midpoint Cafe. This cafe originally opened in 1928 and became Jesse's Cafe in the 1950s.

I-40 bypassed the town of Adrian in 1969 and business at Jesse's Cafe went downhill rather quickly as motorists no longer traveled Route 66 in high volume. Fran Houser was the owner beginning in the 90's and renamed it to the Midpoint Cafe in 1995. 08-21

Here's the facade for the Blue Front Cafe in Amarillo, TX. The Cafe opened in 1985 and has been known for good food up until fairly recently. The latest word is the Blue Front Cafe is now closed permanently., likely due to complications from running a business during the pandemic. 08-21
