Neon roadside motel signs like the Sun Valley Motel can be found throughout Texas. Many of them were gems back in the day including some which are no longer around. See some of them here at Roadside Peek's Neon Motels Texas

The Mesa Motel is another old roadside motel that tries to lure the tired motorist with low rates.

Fortunately there's cable at the Texan Motel of Austin. This sign may look simple but its exudes character. Yep, it must be that advertising of cable.

The Texan Motel is one of the last remaining motels still intact in Fort Worth, TX.

Check out this roadside delight of a sign at the Caravan Motor Hotel in Fort Worth Texas. Fancy palm trees out here.

Travel down the main drag when voila... you are met with huge green palms. Oh, they're fake. Well, the marquee for the Caravan Inn is quite a sight. The Caravan is located at 2601 Jacksboro Hwy. in Fort Worth.

UPDATE : The motel was demolished in 2012 and was replaced by a QuikTrip a year later. This motel is a sister motel to a Caravan Motor Hotel located in Arlington and the huge sign with palm trees is similar at each site. The two motels were originally operated by Lon C. Robinson who also owned two additional motels in Fort Worth which operated under the name Landmark Lodge and City Center Motel. The Landmark Lodge is still operating although it is in very poor shape.

Don-Mar Motel
Austin, TX

The Don-Mar Motel and its streamline era sign hasn't fared as well as the Austin Motel above. This place is for sale and waiting to be brought back to its former glory. The Don-Mar was built in 1935.

UPDATE 11/05 : The Don-Mar Motor Court will be torn down soon to make room for a new multimillion-dollar development. According to the News 8 website, the development could range from "an auto repair facility, offices, or mixed-use project with retail on the lower level and residential above." Many thanks to John Hickman for update. 11-05

UPDATE 10/06 : The Don-Mar Motor Court on S Congress Avenue was still open as long term lodging in September, 2006. The green and yellow sign to the right of the marquee showed that the motel is still for sale. 10-06

Though not a motel per se, the sign for the Wagon Wheel Apartments is worth a mention on this page.

The Sunset Inn marquee stands tall along the highway and is reminiscent of some of the casino signage (Sunset Station) found in Las Vegas.
