This rather tall marquee sits just outside of the Drummers Inn in Fort Worth, TX. This appears to be an old roadside sign.

 

 

Alamo Plaza Hotel Courts (Demolished)

Here's the huge marquee out front of the Alamo Plaza Hotel Court in Dallas. The sign brings back memories of the old Holiday Inn signs of yesteryear. 03-06

The Alamo Plaza Hotel Courts brand was the first motel chain in the United States, founded in 1929 by Edgar Lee Torrance in Waco. By 1955, there were more than twenty Alamo Plazas across the southeastern U.S. This location was built in the 1940s and the sign dates back to 1959. 03-06

UPDATE : The Alamo Plaza Hotel Courts was demolished around 2011. 07-23

The Eastern Hills Motel in Dallas, TX features a brightly painted sign next to the driveway. 03-06

 

 

Valhalla Motel (Gone)

This motel, found just off the highway in Dallas, features a sign that advertises $19 a couple, hence the name Valhalla Motel. Later the sign had Interstate Motel next to the sign Not sure if the price still stands at $19 per couple these days and I wonder if the owners regret making the price such a permanent part of the sign. The motel was built in 1952. 03-06

UPDATE : The sign is gone where it advertises $19 a couple. The sign was removed from the placer around 2011. 07-23

 

 

Kool Breeze Motel

Sometimes Texas can be quite hot and humid during the summer. During days like these, it doesn't hurt to see a motel with the name Kool Breeze Motel, like this one in Dallas, TX. 03-06

 

 

Texas Motel (Closed)
McLean, TX

Always interesting are roadside signs in the shape of the state they represent. Here's the appropriately named Texas Motel, found off of the Mother Road in McLean, TX.

This Texas Motel & Restaurant opened in the 1960s as the Dixie Motel. It became named the Texas in 1968. 08-06

 

 

Motel 3 Johnson Court

Not sure if this old motor court is called the Motel 3 Johnson Court or Motel 3. In either case, the motel grounds were fenced off.

Well, the motel is indeed called the Motel 3 Johnson Court. 10-06

Check out this old motel sign at the Fontana Motel in San Antonio. 10-06

UPDATE : The Fontana Motel closed down and the name of the motel at 3414 Fredericksburg was changed to the Super 7 Inn. 07-23
