Check out this little hot dog stand that looks like it belongs on a boardwalk. Duk's Hot Dogs has been a part of Chicago since 1954 and was once called Donald Duk's. Once Disney got word of the name, they sued Donald Duk's for trademark violation of their venerable character Donald Duck. The owners had named the place after themselves. The neon sign and bright arrow light the way to the Big Star Drive-in in Kenosha, WI. According to the Chibbqking site, the Big Star is a family owned business that's been around since the 1960's. This drive-in is only open during the summer but is worth a stop for a burger or other fried goodies. 06-09

Orange Garden

Chicago, IL is home to this Chinese restaurant delight called the Orange Garden. Located in the Lakeview area of town, the Orange Garden prominently displays the words "chop suey" on its sign leaving no doubt as to the type of cuisine served here. According to the Chibbqking site, the restaurant appears from the 1950s era with its old black leather booths and dim lighting. 07-09

 

 

Mr. J's Dawg 'N Burger

Mack's Golden Pheasant
Elmhurst, IL

The marquee for Mack's Golden Pheasant was recently restored. The sign itself is dated inside 1936.

According to the Mack's Golden Pheasant website, the business is the oldest continuously family owned restaurant in DuPage County and started up sometime in the late 1930's or early 1940's. After being devastated by fire in 1962, the Golden Pheasant was rebuilt and has been a survivor to this day. 11-09
