Route 66Visit Williams, AZ and the old Route 66 in town, you will come across the Westerner Motel on the left side of the street as you head east. The Westerner Motel still looks pretty much the same these days as it did back when this photo was taken. 09-21

Whispering Winds Motel
Flagstaff, AZ

Route 66The Whispering Winds Motel is a mid-century modern motel that features both a cool sign and modern looking motel. Back in 2000, the motel sign proudly proclaimed that it was American owned and offered TV, phone, and kitchens to its guests. The motel looked to be in decent shape from the outside, though I never stayed there. The motel opened in 1964.

Apparently new ownership came in 2020 and the motel is in the process of restoring itself back to its original theming. It would be good to see a renewed Whispering Winds Motel off the old 66. 09-21

Route 66Check out the old faded sign for the Barker Apartments in Truxton, AZ The Barker Apartments opened in 1953 by Ray and Mildred Barker who also later bought the Frontier Motel in town. On one side of the sign the Lazy Z Motel lettering could be barely seen. Not sure if this once the Lazy Z Motel. 09-21 Route 66Check out this sign for the Best Inn in Winslow, AZ. Not sure when this sign disappeared. The sign advertised a great del of 2 for $20 as well as a bunch of other amenities for travelers looking for a deal off of Route 66. 09-21
