Route 66This cool sign for the Entre Apts as well as the Entre Restaurant in the background used to be an eye catcher of a sign off Route 66 in Winslow AZ. Located near the Delta Motel on the west end of town, the colors on this sign made this area a must stop for photography. The Entre Apts was actually a motel in its past. The owner of the Entre Restaurant built the Entre Motel back in 1976.

Too bad the signs disappeared not too long after these photos were taken. 09-21

Golden Inn Motor Hotel (Demolished)

Route 66Check out this sign for the Golden Inn Motel from the 1990s. The motel and its cool subdued colors on the sign screams of the decade it came from. It's a real shame that this motel and sign are no more.

Route 66Holbrook is home to a bunch of different motels and lodges as a hotbed town off Route 66. The Moen Kopi Motel was one such location and featured a circular arrow to accompany the old school yellow and black motel sign on top.

Holbrook like many of the towns off the Mother Road has changed and unfortunately many of the signs are now gone. The Moen Kopi is now just a memory. 09-21

Sandman Motel (Gone)

Route 66Mr Sandman, bring me a dream. La la la. Well this Sandman Motel was the place of rest and dreams to many a roadside traveler over the years along once busy Route 66 in Holbrook, AZ. Well after the Interstate 40 crossed into town, the town lost a lot of business and many of the old businesses began to decline. The Sandman Motel lasted until the 1990s when this photo was taken. I believe the sign was gone not too long after.

I gotta say taking photos back then and traveling the 66 was a blast. While the photo opportunities are much less these days since much has disappeared off the road, it's still good to visit these towns almost annually as where it almost feels like I'm visiting old friends. This old friend is now only a memory. 09-21

Route 66The Sun n' Sand Motel was a fun roadside themed motel found off the old highway in Holbrook, AZ. The motel sign with is smiling orange looking head on top with sunglasses capture a vacation theme and drew tired travelers off the highway for the night.

Well, the Sun n' Sand Motel disappeared sometime in the 2000s. The motel had deteriorated and was in need of renovation and the reduced business did not help. In speaking with family members of the new owner of the property, the motel was to be renovated and refreshed. Sure enough the Globetrotter Motel appeared and looked shiny and new. So long Sun n' Sand. 09-21
