UPDATE 11/20 : Word is Larry's Shoes went out of business over a decade ago. The original owner retired and apparently changes his son made to run the business did not work out.

Walgreen Drugs

Here's the historic neon sign for the Walgreen Drugs in downtown San Antonio, TX, which has been a local institution since 1936. The building it has occupied has been around since the 1800's. Despite being designated a local landmark by the San Antonio City Council in 1987, the city's Historic and Landmark Review Commission voted on 12/06/06 to grant building owner Federal Realty Investment Trust's request to demolish the building and the adjoining Stuarts building. Walgreen's had previously threatened to leave this site if a new building wasn't built as a replacement. It will be a shame to see both the Walgreen and Stuarts buildings disappear. The historic Kress store across the street also has a neon sign. Hopefully, Kress won't be the next to go. 01-07
Heart of Texas Alamo Drafthouse Cinema

Check out the Heart of Texas Music store at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. The neon sign really stands out. Unfortunately this music store is gone and has been for several years. The store was torn down after being an anchor of the Lamar Square shopping center from 1974 until the early 2010s. A new residential complex is now in its place along with a redesigned Alamo Drafthouse theater. 11-20
